In Memory

Anthony Shumbres

Born June 25, 1956, son of the late Anthony and Agnes Evans Shumbres, he was a graduate of Abington Heights High School, Class of 1974. He was raised in Scranton, later moved to Newton Twp., and resided in Olyphant for the past 40 years.

Tony worked at Grove Textiles, at age 17, until its closure. He then worked at Specialty Records (later Cinram) for 40 years until his retirement 2 years ago. He was a volunteer fireman for the Newton Ransom Hose Co.

Tony was a very kind-hearted and caring person who was very witty and funny. He loved the outdoors, especially canoeing. He also loved nature, and all animals, particularly birds and his cats. He enjoyed gardening and would give away much of what he planted. Tony loved life itself. A man who enjoyed sports, his favorite teams were the New York Yankees and New Orleans Saints. Every Summer, he looked forward to attending his family reunions.

Surviving are his brother and best friend, Stephen Shumbres, and wife Maryann, Old Forge; his stepmother, Kathy Shumbres, Newton Twp., an aunt, Mary Incelli, Jessup; an uncle, Mike Gianzanti, Dunmore; many cousins; and numerous friends at Ken’s Bar, Olyphant.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Shumbres.

If you had known Tony you would have loved him. His smile and laugh would light up a room. He was simply a genuine person who will be missed by all. Rest in peace my dear brother.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Tony’s visitation on Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in Ferri & Gillette Funeral Services, LLC, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge.
